Permanent Leftover Prescription Drop Box- Jackson
The Jackson County Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition (JCSAPC), along with the Jackson City Police Department, is excited to announce the establishment of a permanent prescription drug drop box for all residence of Jackson County. The acquirement of this permanent drop box would allow residents to dispose of their unused or expired prescriptions properly and decrease the opportunity of prescription drug abuse.
This past Saturday Jackson City Police, Jackson County Sheriff and the Michigan State Police held a one-day prescription drug take back. More than seven million Americans abuse prescription drugs, which is more than those who use heroin, cocaine and hallucinogens combined according to the 2009 Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s National Survey on Drug Use and Health. National studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including the home medicine cabinet. In addition, Americans are now advised that their usual methods for disposing of unused medicines—flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash—both pose potential safety and health hazards.
To drop off your expired or unused prescription go to the Jackson City Police Department between the hours of 6;00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. Please note: no liquids or needs will be accepted, only pills.
