Parents Night Out – Ann Arbor
LESLIE SCIENCE & NATURE CENTER: A NIGHT OFF FOR PARENTS WHILE KIDS HAVE FUN LEARNING
Feb 28, 5 to 10 pm
Leslie Science & Nature Center is proud to announce a new event designed to meet the needs of parents of school-aged children, Parents’ Night Out. Conceptualized by LSNC staff who are parents themselves and inspired by events held in other institutions around the country, this is an economical and educational alternative to babysitters on a Friday night at the end of February. Parents’ Night Out is designed for kids aged 7-12, and will be held on-site at LSNC, 1831 Traver Rd, Ann Arbor, MI, 48105, on Friday, February 28 from 5:00-10:00 p.m.
Parents are encouraged to have a guilt-free date night – or a quiet night in – while their children, ages 7 to 12, spend time learning and exploring the natural world in this night-themed environmental education program. For less than the cost of a sitter, children will enjoy visiting LSNC’s non-releasable birds of prey, the educational animals in the Critter House, and hiking trails that wind through LSNC’s setting on over 50 acres of fields and forest. Kids who attend will also learn about nocturnal animals, investigate night sounds, and maybe even do a little astronomy, if the skies are clear. After an evening packed with hands-on learning and a dinner of pizza, the group will snack on popcorn while they wind down with a nature-themed movie until it’s time for parents to pick them up, happy and ready for bed.
Leslie Science & Nature Center has scheduled this program with working parents’ schedules and budgets in mind. Parents are welcomed to drop off their children for the evening at any time between 5:00 and 6:00 pm, and may pick them up at any time between 9:00 and 10:00 pm. The fee for each child is only $25 for this five hour program filled with educational fun. Parents’ Night Out is the perfect evening of camp-like experiences for children, who will meet new friends and actively explore nature while their adults have time for a night out on the town! Children should come dressed for the weather, with mittens, hats, coats, snow pants, and boots, as we will be spending plenty of time outdoors.
Susan Westhoff, LSNC’s Executive Director, was intrigued by “night at the museum” events held for children in Chicago and Denver. “As a mother to two curious, energetic children, I know how much fun they have together with other kids their age, exploring and enjoying nature. Events like Parents’ Night Out mean parents can re-connect and recharge while they know their children are safe, having adventures, learning about the world, and meeting new friends.”
Your children are invited to join us for Parents’ Night Out on Friday February 28 from 5:00-10:00 p.m. at Leslie Science & Nature Center, 1831 Traver Road, Ann Arbor, MI, 48105. The registration fee, $25, includes dinner and snacks. Space is limited, and early registration is suggested at http://www.lesliesnc.org or by calling 734-997-1553.
