The Greater Albion Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau, the Calhoun County Convention & Visitors Bureau, and the Rotary Club of Albion are pleased to invite you to paddle the Kalamazoo River with us Saturday July 27th for the 10th Anniversary of the Kanoe the Kazoo party.
Starting at Reiger Park in Albion at 9 AM our paddle party will meander to Stuart’s Landing in Marshall where we will have a free picnic in the afternoon and giggle about our adventures.
Free kayaks are available for the first 12 registered participants who do not own their own boat. Commemorative, free teeshirts are available for the first 50 registered participants. To register call the Chamber at 517-629-5533. This event is free and open to the public. An experienced kayaker will travel with us in case of emergency but it is expected that participants can, in general, maneuver their boats — completely inexperienced boaters should seriously consider whether they are capable of this 13 mile paddle.
If you are unable to paddle with us for the whole day, you are still invited to participate. Special arrangements can be made to take you back to your car if you need to leave early or if you need to join us at some point along the river after we have left Albion, a driver can bring you out to meet up with us. Special arrangements MUST be made in advance with the Chamber — no day of event modifications to the schedule will be possible.
Participants in this event are encouraged to bring bug spray, sunscreen, power-aid bars and water (you’re going to get hungry), a dry bag (or large ziplock baggie), extra clothes, a towel, hat, gloves, sunglasses, and a waterproof camera. Keys and cellphones should be kept in a dry bag for their protection.
It is anticipated that some people will bring water balloons and enjoy getting people wet along the way. If you do not tolerate frivolity, this is probably not your kind of event. Safe, fun frivolity is encouraged on this day on our river. Bon voyage!
