Department of Communication and Media hosts the fourth annual “Forget Me Never” event
Join Spring Arbor University’s Department of Communication and Media for the fourth annual “Forget Me Never” event on Sunday, April 7, at 2:00 p.m., held at the Michigan Theatre of Jackson. “Forget Me Never” is a red carpet movie premiere, organized by SAU students, honoring the lives of local residents of Arbor North, a semi-assisted living center in Jackson, Mich.
This year’s event features videos of 13 Arbor North residents. SAU film students interview and film each resident, weaving together their memories and stories into a feature-length film. The residents, along with friends and families, are invited to the movie premiere. Each resident is honored with gift baskets and books featuring their stories.
SAU film professor, Dorie Shelby, is credited with developing the event, while Becky Veydt, instructor of communication, leads a team of students who plan it. The goal is to preserve the stories of each resident for future generations. These stories can foster appreciation and life perspective among younger generations. Shelby takes pride in the event, saying, “I see the bonds our students have forged with the residents, and their sense of accomplishment in creating something incredibly meaningful for the residents and their families.”
The event is free and open to the public. Semi-formal attire is encouraged.
