This generous benefit will contribute to the CPCAN¹s mission, ³to educate
and strengthen our community to reduce child abuse and neglect.² Sounds
and Sights are also held in Chelsea on Thursday nights through August 15
from 6:30-8:30 p.m. A variety of artists perform at ten separate staged
areas providing listeners with a diverse lineup from bluegrass to jazz to
indie rock.  In addition, there are children¹s entertainers, a juried
sculpture walk, outdoor movies and an assortment of unique retail shops.
Wendy Gonzalez, CPCAN¹s Executive Director, will provide a short
presentation on the CPCAN¹s mission and programs at Back to the Roots in
between performances on the restaurant¹s stage at approximately 7:30 p.m.
CPCAN provides many services within the community to reduce child abuse
and neglect. Free weekly parenting classes for families with children
from 0-5 teach parents how to better understand, respond and communicate
with their children. Annual trainings assist professionals in the
detection, treatment and prevention of child abuse. CPCAN distributes
child safety and parent educational materials at a wide variety of
community events and participates in community collaboratives – including
a partnership with the Jackson Family Court to offer truancy programs to
struggling families.
Back to the Roots is a social enterprise whose primary purpose is to use
its profits and resources to help vulnerable children in India, Haiti and
here at home. Back to the Roots Restaurant is also committed to local
sustainable farming and Fair Trade, and offers delicious locally grown
food on their menu and fair trade
