Angels of Action “Angel Ride” Registration Open – Big Rapids
Big Rapids, MI – Registration is open for the 3rd Annual Angel Ride, September 27, 2014. Online registrations can be made at http://angelride14.eventbrite.com. Early registration ends June 30, 2014.
Cyclists of all levels are welcome to participate in the Angel Ride. Riders can choose their own pace to ride 13, 26, 52 or 100 miles. All routes are round-trips and begin at Northend Riverside Park in Big Rapids. Riders will be on the White Pine and Pere Marquette Rails-to-Trails; there are no roads to ride on, only a few roads to cross. There will be several food and water stations along the route as well as SAG (support and gear) vehicles. Registered riders will receive an event t-shirt and finishers will receive medals.
Participants may register as an individual, family, or as part of a team of four or more people. Children must ride with an adult. College students who show current ID can register at a special rate. In addition to rider registration, individuals or businesses interested in helping to sponsor the event can register for a “Go the Extra Mile” marker. These 12 x 18 inch signs can be “In Honor” or “In Memory,” or for someone in the ride. They can also highlight a business.
While registration will remain open until a few days prior to the event, participants who register by June 30th will enjoy a discounted registration rate. On July 1, all rider rates will go up.
The Angel Ride began in 2011 as a way to raise funds for the Angels of Action’s signature program, Backpack Blessings. The program targets kids who access free and reduced lunches. To ensure that they have something to eat over the weekend, children identified as “in need” by teachers and school administrators are given a backpack filled with nutritious food every Friday of the school year. The program began by serving 75 children in three schools. As of December 2013, they serve over 600 children in five schools, in three districts.
The mission of the Angels of Action is to change lives by providing nutritious food to K-4 children identified by their school as being at risk of going hungry over weekends during the school year. Our goal is to help feed every hungry child in Mecosta County; one backpack at a time. For more information, visit www.angelsofaction.org.
