American Impressionism Presentation – Jackson
Presenter: Dr. Michael Farrell
November 9, 2013
2 p.m.
Community room, the Ella Sharp Museum of Art and History

Dr. Michael Farrell has been a professor of art history since 1968. He believes there is a profound difference between looking and seeing. In his entertaining/inspiring lecture format, the difference becomes apparent. Impressionism was a uniquely French national form of painting, which very quickly became an international movement. Some American artists traveled to France and adopted the new style as their own; many returned and introduced it to an accepting audience, nationalizing Impressionism in America.
