The Alzheimer’s Association® is inviting Jackson residents to join the fight to end Alzheimer’s by participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s. The Walk will take place on September 15 at Horace Blackman Park on W Michigan Ave in Jackson.
The Ceremony for the walk begins at 6:45 PM, and the two mile walk itself starts at 7 PM.
Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s participants will complete a two mile walk and will learn about Alzheimer’s disease, advocacy opportunities, clinical studies enrollment and support programs and services from the Alzheimer’s Association. Walk participants will also join in a meaningful tribute ceremony to honor those affected by Alzheimer’s disease.
“The Alzheimer’s Association is pleased to present this year’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Jackson,” says Jennifer Howard, Executive Director for the Alzheimer’s Association, Michigan Great Lakes Chapter. “There are over 180,000 people living with this devastating disease in Michigan, and this walk will raise desperately needed funds so that we can continue to provide care and support to all those affected, as well as funding the research that will ultimately lead to a cure.”
More than 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease, the sixth leading cause of death in the U.S. and the only disease among the top 10 causes that cannot be cured, prevented or even slowed. Additionally, more than 15 million family and friends provide care to people with Alzheimer’s and other dementias in the U.S. In Michigan alone, there are more than 180,000 people living with the disease and 511,000 caregivers.
