The Jackson Area Association of REALTORS was awarded a $2,000 grant from the Michigan Association of REALTORS to support Placemaking activities in Jackson County. Local organizations, groups and individuals can apply to receive a Lighter, Quicker, Cheaper grant for projects that create a place that people can be active, socialize, and enjoy the area. In addition, the Jackson Community Foundation will be providing matching funds available for non-profit organizations and municipalities.
Placemaking is about turning a neighborhood, town, or city from a place you can’t wait to get through into one you never want to leave. It is the process and result of creating a place with unique features that people want to use, be in, enjoy, and/or remember, because it was interesting or pleasurable. Projects can be big or small but must create a sense of place. All grant applications must be sponsored by a member of the Jackson Area Association of REALTORS. Visit www.JacksonMIHomes.com for a member roster.
“This is an opportunity to develop relationships between local residents and REALTORS so both parties feel a greater sense of ownership over our community,” said Melissa Tee, Executive Vice President, Jackson Area Association of REALTORS. “This grant program will enhance social spaces within the community and increase the local residents’ sense of belonging.”
Grant applications are due June 28, 2013 at NOON and can be found at www.JacksonMIHomes.com or by calling 517-787-6175. Grants will be awarded by a judging panel and amounts will vary up to $4,000. All projects must be completed by September 30, 2013.
