Spring Arbor University will be running Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night April 11 through April 14, from 8:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at the Michigan Theater in Jackson, Mich. Twelfth Night is a romantic comedy based around hidden identity.
The play contains the twist of a modern-day setting. The play’s original set was on the eastern coast of the Adriatic Sea, but instead of washing up on shore, Viola meets the Duke when she attends his high school prom, circa 1984. “Somehow, Twelfth Night read to me like something that could take place at a high school dance circa the 80s,” says director Jen Letherer.
Attendees are encouraged to wear 80s clothes. “I’m hoping that many area high schools take advantage of a local quality production of Shakespeare and bring classes,” says Letherer.
