MDOT officials coming to Jackson for town hall meeting to discuss gas-tax proposal

Local residents can learn more about a state proposal to increase the gas tax and user fees to pay for better roads at an informational town hall meeting on Thursday, March 14 in Jackson, state Reps. Earl Poleski and Mike Shirkey announced. The event, hosted by Poleski and Shirkey, takes place at the Jackson County Commission Chambers in the County Tower Building, 120 W. Michigan Ave., from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Gov. Rick Snyder has proposed a plan to increase Michigan’s gas tax and diesel tax to pay for road repair and maintenance. The tax increases could help raise $1.2 billion annually.

Bart Hawley of JTV will moderate the meeting, which will include regional and statewide MDOT officials who will present information on how road improvements are funded. The governor’s proposal, as well as other proposals, also will be discussed.
