SESSION 1:
Recognizing Child Abuse and Neglect
Presented by Dr. Bethany Mohr, Director: Child Protection Team
and Dr. Lisa Markman, Associate Director: Child Protection Team
University of Michigan C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital

This course will provide an overview of the medical aspects of child maltreatment. Participants will become knowledgeable about the medical aspects of all forms of child maltreatment including sexual abuse, physical abuse, neglect and medical child abuse.

Participants will:
Become more knowledgeable regarding the role of the medical evaluation in the investigation of suspected child maltreatment (sexual abuse/physical abuse/neglect/medical child abuse).
Become familiar with the various lab testing/diagnostic studies used in the medical evaluation of suspected physical abuse and sexual abuse.
SESSION 2:
Stewards of Children,
Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Training
Presented by Judy Szink, MA Counseling Psychology,
Stewards of Children Facilitator

Stewards of Children is a prevention training program that teaches adults how to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse. The program is designed for organizations that serve youth and for individuals concerned about the safety of children. It is the only nationally distributed, evidence based program proven to increase knowledge, improve attitudes, and change child protective behaviors.

Participants will:
Learn the seven steps to preventing, recognizing and reacting responsibly to child sexual abuse.
