In a joint effort by Recycling Jackson and Greater Jackson Habitat for Humanity, a latex paint recycling day will be held on September 28, 2013 at the Habitat Restore on Prospect Street in Jackson. The hours of the event are 9 AM to 1 PM.
Working through e-paint Recycling. LLC in Battle Creek, Michigan residents and businesses will be able to recycle those unwanted gallons of paint that have been hanging around the house. For a minimum donation of $1 per gallon container or $4 for a five-gallon bucket residents can properly recycle their unwanted latex paint.
Until this year there have been no options for recycling latex paint in our community. “For many years we have told residents to dry it out and toss it in the trash. This year that has all changed and we are providing an opportunity to actually recycle that material” said Steve Noble, Board President of Recycling Jackson.
For many years Habitat for Humanity ReStores have been selling e-paint, a high quality product made from recycled latex paint. “This is a great opportunity for the community to contribute to this process and for us to complete that cycle for our residents” said Shelly Hendrick, Executive Director of Jackson Habitat for Humanity.
To be eligible for collection at the event, the paint has to be liquid, latex based, and each container has to be sealed and not leaking. No leaking containers will be accepted at the event and no other types of material will be collected. This is not the county household hazardous waste collection event.
All net proceeds will support Habitat for Humanity construction projects.
