Jackson Storyfest ~ Featuring The Brand New Program, KIDS TELL! (Stories By and For Kids)
“Let us tell you a thrilling new a story …,” so will begin the Twenty-Sixth Annual Jackson Storyfest to be held May 2, 3 & 4, 2013. In the tradition of bringing national, regional and local storytellers to our community, we’ve added an exciting twist to our storytelling attractions. This year begins the first step toward developing a new generation of “home-grown” storytellers through our new school program, KIDS TELL!
This year’s event will feature Junior Storytellers who will be selected by the public to perform at Jackson Storyfest 2013.
KIDS TELL! began with teachers from Jackson area schools who volunteered to attend storytelling workshops and receive guidelines and materials that they incorporated into their curriculum. Award winning storyteller, Judy Sima, provided these teachers with instruction and mentoring to assist them in teaching the oral tradition of storytelling. Through the introduction of performance techniques and skills taught in the classroom, the teachers have helped their students become storytellers.
These students have been practicing their stories in preparation for the opportunity to perform at Jackson Storyfest this year. Videos of their performances have been completed and posted to the Jackson Storyfest website. To view their videos and vote for your favorite, visit http://www.jacksonstoryfest.com/kids-tell-view-and-vote. The students with the most votes in each level will be performing at the Family Matinee on Saturday, May 4th.
