Executive Briefing on Michigan’s Industrial Personal Property Tax – Jackson
The Michigan business community celebrated last year when Michigan enacted a law to eliminate the Industrial Personal Property Tax (PPT) that costs Michigan businesses $576 million annually. Passage of the law was only half the battle. This bold effort to reduce taxes on Michigan businesses still requires a vote of the people for final approval or the tax cut will be repealed. This means that we need a majority of Michigan voters to vote YES on Primary Election Day on August 5, 2014. The Jackson County Chamber of Commerce, Michigan Manufacturers Association, the Michigan Chamber of Commerce, the Small Business Association of Michigan and the National Federation of Independent Business-Michigan support this ballot proposal.
To that end, we are inviting business leaders in south central Michigan to attend an Executive Briefing on this important issue. This is an opportunity to learn more about the elimination of the PPT, what it means to you and your business, and what is at stake in the August election. If you are a small business or manufacturer, the personal property tax relief will directly benefit you beginning as early as 2014. But every business has a stake in passing the ballot question because we eventually want to expand this relief to all business taxpayers while making sure that our local institutions who rely on this income are also taken care of.
We achieved a significant legislative victory to reform Michigan’s business taxes to help our businesses grow. We are now just steps from the finish line, but we need you to join us as we continue the fight for a stronger, more competitive tax climate for Michigan.
