Ballet 5:8 The Story of Job – Spring Arbor
Ballet 5:8, a Chicago-based professional ballet company currently in its second performing season, will be at Spring Arbor University’s White Auditorium on Saturday, March 22nd at 7:00pm as the final stop of the Spring Series 2014 Midwest Tour. The company will present Artistic Director Julianna Slager’s original full-length ballet The Story of Job: When Bad Things Happen to Good People, as well as short ballets Indwelling and Proverbs. The show will be opened by students from Jackson Dance Company, of the local dance school Academy of the Arts in Spring Arbor. Tickets are $18 for adults and $15 for children 10 years and under, and are available at ballet58.org.
Ballet 5:8 is excited to present a full program of original work. Slager’s The Story of Job, a Biblical tale retold set in modern times, is said to be set apart as one of only a few full-length story ballets created in and for the present day. The captivating story wrestles with some of life’s toughest questions. Indwelling, an abstract short work, brings to life a picture of the inner struggle between good and evil within the human soul. And, lending an uplifting contrast to the other two works, Proverbs illustrates the truths found in short sayings from the Biblical book of Proverbs.
