8th Annual Camel Race – Owosso
March 22, 2013
The 8th annual Camel races will be held March 22, 2014 at the original Knights of Columbus “race track” in Owosso. Hosted by the Shiawassee-Owosso Kiwanis Club, the 2014 Camel Cup is part of the annual Shiawassee Red Cross Heroes Campaign which benefits the Shiawassee Service Center and supports local Red Cross services.
Camels are available now for sponsors, which include one racing camel entry and priority seating for eight, on a first come, first served basis, and are limited to 24 camels. Event sponsorships are also available at a variety of levels. Interested sponsors may contact the Shiawassee Red Cross Service Center at (989) 743-6118 Tuesday through Thursday for more information.
The Camel Cup will kick off with social hour at 5:30 p.m., dinner at 6:30, followed by nine races. Camels will compete on race night for the coveted Camel Cup, awarded to the championship race winner, while the audience will vote that evening to select the “Best Dressed Camel”. Individual tickets priced at $25 per person, and reserved tables for eight will be available with advance ticket purchases in February.
“We’re excited about returning to the Knights of Columbus this year, where the camel races first began eight years ago. The camels are in training and will be ready for the 9-race program. The sponsors and guests can count on a spectacular event!! As usual, the can raffle will have a variety of terrific items, and the reverse raffle is always an exciting event. We’re thrilled to continue this great community partnership to support Red Cross services right here in Shiawassee County.”” said Fred Finnen, President of the Shiawassee-Owosso Kiwanis Club.
