In the first four months of Jackson County’s permanent drop box located at the Jackson City Police, over 80 pounds of unwanted prescriptions were collected properly disposed. At last Aprils take back day, over 140 pounds of prescription drugs were collected. More than seven million Americans abuse prescription drugs, which is more than those who use heroin, cocaine and hallucinogens combined according to the 2009 Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s National Survey on Drug Use and Health. National studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including the home medicine cabinet.

Since May 2013, Jackson has had a permanent drop box located at the Jackson City Police station that is open every day from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
