Michigan Independent Motion Picture Making Workshop- Jackson

When:
August 15, 2013 @ 5:30 pm – 7:45 pm

Keepers LLC will present an interesting and fun workshop about what is involved in making an independent motion picture in Michigan. The first session will be at the Carnegie Library Auditorium on Thursday, August 15 at 5:30-7:45 pm. A workshop at the Parma Branch is on Wednesday, August 21 at 5:00-7:00 pm, and also at the Eastern Branch on Thursday, August 22 at 5:30-7:30 pm.

The session will be led by Sharma Krauskopf, a Parma resident who until she became the screenwriter and executive producer of a feature length movie entitled Keepers, was a successful author with 25 books in print plus writing for two monthly magazines.  She will be assisted by some of the producers of the film at the workshop.

Keepers is a feature-length character-driven drama about a lighthouse keeper who falls very quickly from being a local hero who saves mariners’ lives to a victim whose way of life and job is taken away when a computer begins remote control of the lighthouse’s beacon. This dramatic film takes place in 1980s but the termination of professions because of computer technology continues today.

Examples from the Keepers experience will be used to explain independent film making in Michigan, which is very different from the Hollywood style. The focus of this session with be pre-development and development of the film.
