East Lansing, MI

The 2013 Michigan Harvest Gathering Campaign will be celebrated on November 20th, at the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center in East Lansing, led by Attorney General Bill Schuette and Executive Director of the Food Bank Council of Michigan, Kareemah El-Amin. Since its inception in 1991, the Michigan Harvest Gathering has raised over $8.6 Million dollars and over 8.7 Million pounds of food, significantly benefitting the resources of Michigan food banks. This year, the goal of the Michigan Harvest Gathering is to raise $500,000 and 350,000 pounds of food. Results of this year’s campaign will be released at the Celebration Luncheon. Tickets will need to be purchased prior to the event and will not be available at the door. Folks may purchase tickets and learn more about the Luncheon details at http://michiganharvestgathering.eventbrite.com/.

The Michigan Harvest Gathering Celebration Luncheon will honor the efforts of many people, organizations and partners who make a significant difference in helping to reduce hunger in Michigan. “A Culture of Honor” is the theme that will be highlighted throughout the event, as a tribute to the exemplary work that is done through the Michigan Harvest Gathering.

Currently, 23.7% of Michigan’s children face hunger, without a reliable source of healthy food. “The funds and food accrued through the Michigan Harvest Gathering program translates into millions of meals that are directly coordinated through our member food banks,” said Kareemah El-Amin. “This food includes fresh, Michigan grown fruits and vegetables in addition to more shelf stable items, which is vital to the nutrition of Michigan children.”
