Guitarist Elden Kelly in Concert – Jackson

April 20, 2013 @ 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm
Categories:

The Jackson Symphony Orchestra welcomes guitarist Elden Kelly to their Performing Arts Center, 215 W. Michigan Avenue, downtown Jackson on Saturday, April 20 at 7 p.m. Admission is $10. With a voice likened to Jeff Buckley and technique that is the guitarist’s envy, Elden Kelly has captivated audiences across the country with his virtuosic songwriting. Influenced by such diverse genres as jazz, neoclassicism, American Roots, Hindustani and Turkish music, Kelly proves impossible to pigeonhole. From bluegrass to ballads to fretless guitar, Kelly keeps it in the pocket—and he does it alone.

Kelly’s solo act wants for nothing thanks to his skillful contrapuntal performance on guitar, which simulates the harmonies, lines and rhythms that often require a larger ensemble to create. However, it is his songwriting where Kelly’s genius shines. He refreshes his audience with sophisticated lyrics, not only from his own pen, but also by setting to music some of the greatest writings and poetry of our language.

Joining the JSO Community Music School’s July 15-26th summer camp as guitar instructor, Kelly will teach individual and group guitar lessons and guitar jam sessions. Win a 30 minute guitar lesson with Elden Kelly. Sign up online for a chance to win – www.JacksonSymphony.org. Winner will receive the lesson between July 15-26 at the JSO.
