If you are a Civil War history buff, Jackson has just the festival for you! The Cascades Civil War Muster is the longest running and largest Civil War Muster re-enactment in the entire midwest. The Muster involves more than 1,500 re-enactors and sees more than 30,000 guests over the two-day event.
August 24th and 25th, Cascades Park becomes a civil war battlefield and encampment. The battles start at 2 p.m. each day and, this year, feature the Battle of Chancellorsville and the Battle of Gettysburg. The event is fun for the whole family with encampment and medical demonstartions, military ball, arts and crafts vendors and a free concert from the Saline Fiddlers, sponsored by Experience Jackson. For a complete event schedule, go to CivilWarMuster.org.
Coinciding with both the Cascades Civil War Muster and the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg, the Ella Sharp Museum features an new exhibit entitled “Mementos of the Civil War”. This exhibit features original artifacts used by soldiers during the War. Many of these pieces have not been on display like this before. Don’t miss this exciting Civil War exhibit as well as the rest of the museum while you are in town for the Cascades Civil War Muster.
