Artists Wanted for How Bazaar Festival – Jackson

The Midtown Association announces the call for artists for the inaugural How Bazaar Jackson Festival, August 2 & 3, 2014. This Downtown Jackson two-day street fair combines several events and activities, including a juried art fair, Taste of Jackson, Run or Dye™ 5K fun run, kids’ activities and live entertainment indoors and outdoors. Expected attendance for this event is about 5,000. Artists from all over the Midwest and beyond are invited to set up booths and show off their talents.
This independently juried event offers a total of $10,000 in prizes, including a first place prize of $5,000, second place prize of $2,500 and third place prize of $1,000. There will also be three $500 awards voted on by the community. Artists will also be allowed to sell their works during the two-day event. The artists will be able to keep 100% of the profits from what they sell or get commissioned on-site.
“This event will draw thousands to Downtown Jackson starting with the Run or Dye on Saturday morning and continuing with various activities throughout the weekend,” said Ann Green, Board Chair of the Arts and Cultural Alliance of Jackson County. “Artists of various media will benefit from the exposure as well as the sales at this unique event.”
Artwork eligible for consideration may include (but not be limited to) Ceramics, Glass, Metalwork, Photography, Fiber, Jewelry, Folk Art, Found Art, Mixed Media, Painting, Wood and Sculpture. All artists must submit a jury application through ZAPP (www.zapplication.org) a free online application site for artists. Application deadline is June 15, with an early bird jury fee of $30 before May 20th. After that the jury fee will be $45. Once the jury fee has been accepted, an additional $100 booth fee will be charged by June 30th.
Artists are invited to set up on Friday, August 1, 2014 between 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. There will be security provided overnight. Artists are encouraged to stay at local hotels.
